The purpose of this page is to assist users to make decisions about how to deal with data entry in situations where the right way forward might be unclear, or a judgement call.
<aside> 💡 The distinctions between some types of entries will be a matter of judgement, degree and experience. If in doubt, we will follow the purpose and principles of the portal as laid out in this guide. Feel free to contact the project lead if this page does not answer your questions.

The structure of the portal as a digital asset reflects design decisions made by the project lead and the ACT during the development process. To put this more directly, the concepts used to describe transparency initiatives (actors, initiatives, products/outputs, events, etc) have been embedded in the structure of the site and the methods used for collating and storing data.
This means that certain things about the classification and categorisation of data for the portal may not be able to be changed without having flow on repercussions for the operation of the portal itself. As a result, any suggestions or recommendations made by users that have ramifications across data structure, portal design, and data entry methods will be collated and kept for subsequent iterations of the portal’s development.
The portal needs to be able to capture nuanced information about the actors, initiatives, events and outputs recorded in an entry. The transparency field is also developing rapidly and changing frequently.
As a result, we have decided to make all categorisation fields (except “event type”) ‘multi-select’ rather than ‘single select’. We recommend erring on the side of using more tags rather than less when inputting data.
