Overview

This page gives you a sense of the purpose, objectives, and principles sitting behind the portal initiative. It also gives you a sense of how we’ll approach making decisions about administering the portal, including to give effect to these principles and objectives.

Purpose of the portal

The purpose of the portal is to give effect to the objectives and values of the Action Coalition on Meaningful Transparency through a digital output that provides lasting community infrastructure.

Principles and values underlying the portal

Scope - what should be included?

The portal is about transparency initiatives, but transparency is frequently instrumental or only one part of achieving a wider set of goals and objectives when it comes to activity by technology companies or governments.

<aside> ♻️ For example, researcher access to data mechanisms or transparency reports are frequently used by researchers to ask and answer a range of questions that go well beyond tech company transparency as a research area in itself. We expect to encounter and receive entries that relate to a range of topics.

As a result, the scope of the portal will be broad, and continue to expand over time, particularly as transparency is adopted as a policy response to a range of new products and services such as generative AI and large language models.
